Beef Tallow Soap

I’m going to start by saying I have a very talented sister-in-law. To be fair, all of my siblings and in-laws are talented in one way or another. But this particular in-law’s specialty is making soaps and lotions. It started about 10 years ago when our nephew was dealing with pretty severe allergies and as a result had terrible eczema. Jenny (the sister-in-law) wanted to help and started creating lotions to soothe his skin. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Several weeks ago at a farmer’s market, there was someone selling lotion made from beef tallow. It was an ah-ha moment for me. So I asked Jenny if she would make some soap for us out of the kidney fat we had recently started saving from our animals. It was no surprise to me when she agreed and then proceeded to have it made within the week. That’s just how she is - up for a challenge and excited to take it on. And it turned out amazing on her first try!

It’s very satisfying for me to discover new ways to use the product that we raise. Especially when it’s something that was not being utilized previously. An added bonus is having people in our lives that can make those things a reality.
