It will be Okay

Tuesday, July 7th at about 9:30pm we had a few of the scariest moments of our lives. We knew the storm was coming and prepared like we normally would. Vehicles like my suburban and Jed’s old pickups went in the big shed, other vehicles like the camper and boat went in the shop. We do that to mostly to avoid hail damage. When the first gust of wind came it came with a vengeance. But it only lasted a couple of minutes and then quieted down. The second gust came and it was even stronger. Jed went to look out the north windows of the house because the sky just looked strange and he wanted a different view. As he looked north and west he saw the roof of the shed and shop lift up into the air. He turned and grabbed Beau (the only kid home at the time) and I and ran for the basement. We could hear and feel pieces of the roof hitting the house and wondered if the house roof would be next. You guys. I was terrified. Ask my mom. I have been afraid of windy storms since my first tornado experience as a toddler. Growing up, I would sit on the stairs durning storms so that I could see my parents in the living room and feel a little safer.

After 10 minutes or so it was over and we went upstairs to survey the damage.

Looking in from the west

This is what’s left of the shed. Yes, that’s where my suburban and Jed’s old pickups are parked.

It was still a little light out and not raining too much, so we walked around and took some pictures and thanked God that our house was still standing and we (and all the neighbors) were okay. And in the end that’s all that matters. We are okay. It will be okay.

So today we keep cleaning up, keep talking to the contractors and insurance adjuster, keep keeping things in perspective and thank family and friends for their help and support.
